The Circuit MWiB Committee held a Curry Evening at Tebay Methodist Church on 19th April. Ladies from the various chapels had excelled themselves in making different curries of varying ingredients, strengths & colours ! Rice with poppadums , naan bread, mango chutney & a yoghurt raita accompanied the dishes. Following these were puddings, both Indian & traditional supplied by the chapels. All of these presented a wonderful array for everyone's taste with many folks having second helpings.
Mrs Helen Morton who had welcomed everyone the introduced Moses John from Keswick who is training to be a Methodist Minister. He told the audience about his life in India where his family have been instrumental in setting up an orphanage & a school in their village. Their dream now is to build a toilet block for the village & this will cost about £10,000. Many questions were asked before Helen thanked him & then introduced Mrs Agnes Story , originally from Orton , but has worked on the Indian sub-continent . She had brought her sari & we were shown how to wear it.
Helen thanked Agnes & all those who had contributed in any way to the success of the evening. The total raised was over £300 for The World Mission Fund. A retiring collection was given to MrJohn for the family project.
