Give me your hand – a Musical for Peace

Give me your hand – Peace

A new worship musical was performed inspiringly by the Farnworth and Worsley Methodist Circuit choir.

The challenging words and music were written by the Rev Darren Garfield, with his wife Angela conducting the 40+ strong choir in a spirit-filled performance at Newbiggin on Lune Methodist Church.

The words encouraged us to be peacemakers and pray-ers. It began with a rhythmic lament at the lack of peace in the world, and was followed by a gentle song – ‘Shalom’ – the Hebrew word for the peace God gives – a peace of heart and mind, soul and body, of family and community and with God.

The musical also featured a song written just after the Manchester Arena bombing which had occurred, along with the attacks in London and the Grenfell fire, whilst Darren was on sabbatical and composing the work. The song asked where God was in all of this and reminded us that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, who died for our sins and rose again, in order that we may have peace with God.

The musical ended by reminding us to be peacemakers and that God has called us all to be his hands, feet and voices in this world.

“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.” Matthew ch 5 verse 9

All of those present will remember a blessed afternoon and evening and our thanks go to Darren & Angela Garfield, the choir, the Tebay section for providing refreshments and to Newbiggin on Lune who hosted the service
